Self Care for the Mind

When I’ve had numerous days in a row that have been extra busy and I start feeling myself get stressed out, I know it’s time to turn off my brain and give myself a minute to just not think. My favorite way to do that is with a great binge worthy series! I’ve found that always having one go to show really helps make sure I get out of my head on a regular basis. The last show I really loved was Big Little Lies, which I highly recommend if you’re looking for something to help you unwind!  One quick tip --  be sure not to let it take over your life the way This is Us recently did mine! To help make sure I don’t get sucked in, I will set a goal like allowing myself to watch one episode only if I get all my work done by a certain time. Giving our busy minds something to think about other than all the crap on our ever growing to do list is truly self care for the mind! 

Self Care for the Body

Whether I have been traveling a lot or pushing myself with my workouts, my body regularly needs a nice, long epsom salt soak! My boyfriend, MIke, has an amazing Japanese soaking tub that is made from Hinok, a famous light-colored and aromatic cypress that is considered sacred for its beauty and strength. Hinoki has an amazing lemon/ginger aroma that fills your bath area with each use. It is seriously the most amazing soak! I jump in bed right when I’m done and sleep so well! 

Self Care for the Spirit

Meditation is my go to method for taking care of my spirit. I started meditating about 6 years ago, but in the past year I have really begun to take it more seriously. I set an alarm on my phone for anywhere from ten minutes to one hour, depending on how much time I have. I sit comfortably in bed or in a chair and close my eyes and focus inward. It helps if I focus on a sound in the room, like the air conditioner or washing machine.  I do my best to stay focused there until a thought comes in, which will always happen. Each time, I work on getting back to the sound. I have been able to really find the space between my thoughts and the more I practice, the more I am able to remain in that space. Even if it’s just for a few seconds, it is so peaceful and truly helps me to tune back in to my Source Energy.
